My 10-year-old figured out the gear-and-piston linkage on his own, and the moving bucket actually scoops. With 212 pieces and 5 model options, this set will stay interesting for a long time.

Spent a whole afternoon assembling the excavator, and the gears really do move smoothly with the crank. Having 212 parts means plenty of building time, and the other four models keep it interesting afterwards. Great value for curious kids.

My 9-year-old tore through the excavator build in one rainy afternoon and immediately wanted to try the other four models. The 212 parts snap together tightly, though a couple of the tiny pins needed a bit of extra push. Seeing the arm actually scoop and lift is what sold him on it.
